Websites such as FNB Shop and People System will be inaccessible and web-services such as 2Go\Deliveroo\JustEat, LCI and Go Connect number recognition will not function, some aspects of EPOS will not function if TMS-link is enabled, Res will not be accessible without using a Wi-Fi hotspot, PDQs will not function unless switched to use 3G connectivity, 2Go and deliveroo orders will not print.
When you have a technical emergency, the first thing to remember is to stay calm and reassure your team. There are no issues that cannot be resolved or worked around, so there is no need to panic. In the worst possible scenario, you would need to run the restaurant manually for a short while.
Next, head to your communications cabinet (comms cab) - your comms cab contains all the most important pieces of IT hardware in the building. Here you are going to check a few things:
Check that the cabinet has power There are a number of powered devices in your comms cab - do they have power? Are there lights on the hardware in this cab? Is there fan noise coming from the cab? If there are no lights at all in the cab and there is no noise coming from it, then it's likely that you have an ongoing power situation like a power cut or tripped breaker - check your electrical board for any tripped breakers and try resetting these circuits, if it is safe and reasonable to do so. If the power situation doesn't change, log an issue with repairs & maintenance department via Trackplan and open a ticket on Byte.Support to let us know there is currently a power situation affecting the systems at your venue.
If the comms cabinet has power, the next thing to check are your internet routers. All sites have 2x internet routers. All sites will have at least one white Draytek (some have two) - this white Draytek router is your primary router. Around the rear of the Draytek, next to where the power connects is the power switch. To restart the router, flick the power switch to the off position for 10 seconds, then flip it back on. The router takes up to 5 minutes to fully restart.
Locate and restart both your internet routers.
Your network switch acts as distribution device - it takes one connection from your internet router and splits this across 24 or 48 ports, which are then patched into to your numbered network ports on the wall, throughout your venue. First, check that your network switch is powered up, with lights on it.
Is there an error light shown anywhere on the device?
If it is powered, and has lights on it with no error or fault light - then it is likely that the network switch is functioning (these devices rarely fail). But if there is no power on this switch, contact Byte.support immediately for guidance
Your site server controls a number of things in site, if it's offline or otherwise unavailable, then this can cause knock-on issues for siteops.
