Thermal printers work in much the same way as traditional laser printers - that is to say an image is burned into a roller and this roller then transfers the image to the thermally reactive paper which changes color in the areas prescribed by the transfer drum. Doing it this way provides a much richer and higher defined image than that produced by an impact printer. It does mean that it cannot print on multi-ply paper through and as such is restricted to 1-ply paper.
Typically at IRC, thermal printers are used for bills and receipts.
They are primarily affected by either connectivity or mechanical issues.
Thermal printers are usually connected using either a parallel (LPT) cable or USB cable.
Double-check that the printer is properly and securely connected at both ends, both where the cable connects to the printer and also where the cable connects to the EPOS terminal.
If this is a new printer then you need to use the same method of connecting the printer as the last printer that was used (ie if the last printer was connected via Parallel cable, then a replacement USB printer won't work without re-configuration) - If a new printer, contact [email protected] with the IP address of the printer and they will complete configuration for you.
Check the error light at the front of the printer (next to the paper feed button) - is it indicating a printer error?
Press and hold the printer feed button - does the printer feed paper or not?
If not, then it's likely that the printer has a mechanical fault - this will usually be the case if the printer both (a) has the error light illuminated and (b) will not feed paper when instructed. If both conditions are true, your printer has a mechanical fault and will need to be logged with [email protected]
If your printer still is not working you can either email or call Quadranet using the below details, make sure to explain what you have done already to troubleshoot and this should help speed up the service, if a replacement printer is needed or it needs to be shipped off for repair you will be contacted if any more details are needed to seek a PO
