New PDQs should arrive at sites preconfigured and ready to go - all you have to do is connect them to the Private or Protected network.
Replacement PDQs are Ingenico Move/5000 touchscreen multi-function devices - there are similar to the previous touchscreen terminals, but run different software so the setup is slightly different to what you may be used to.

What connection method should I use and when?
The PDQs we use throughout the estate are Ingenico Move/5000 terminals.
These are multi-comms terminals - meaning that the can be used in various different modes, including: Ethernet (Bluetooth)/Wi-Fi or Mobile (GPRS) - switchable on the fly whenever you need.
This means you can use any terminal as a GPRS mobile terminal when using the PDQ away from site, or switch it back to Wi-Fi for the ultimate convenience or to Bluetooth for ultimate performance. I would suggest that you setup all PDQs on all methods, so that you can chop and change their connection methods on the fly, as the situation demands.
You switch the comms method via the Supervisor menu.
Here are some examples of when you might use one mode over another:
- You are using the PDQ inside the restaurant, and the operating scenario is a normal one - in this circumstance, you would most likely want to operate in Wi-Fi mode. This is because when operating in this mode, you can wander the entire restaurant and use the same PDQ anywhere - even in areas where there is no mobile signal. So long as there is wifi in the area you want to use the PDQ, it will work.
Pro: You can wander the venue and the PDQ will work anywhere that Wi-Fi is available. You don't need to worry about PDQs being placed on the wrong base, as any base will charge any PDQ.
Con: Only works in areas covered by Wi-Fi, will drop off if you try to use them elsewhere
- You take the PDQ outside of it's normal operating area (ie outside of the restaurant or try to use the PDQ in a pop-up outside of the venue) - in this circumstance, you would want to tell the PDQ to use the Mobile connection method.
Pro: The PDQ will work anywhere there is a mobile signal*
Con: Transactions will be slower than any other method
- You are using the PDQ inside the restaurant, but have had a power cut affecting all electrical systems - in this circumstance, you would also want to operate the PDQ in Mobile connection mode, since the internet in site will be down as there is no power.
Pro: The PDQ will work, even when there is no power or connectivity in the venue.
Con: Transactions will be slower than any other method - connectivity can be spotty indoors*
